Celebrate the coconut
A river that works as a road to this: find peace where life is coconuts.
A river that works as a road
On the Pomeroon, in Guyana’s quiet Region 2, the river is the community’s highway. There are no cars here — boats do everything cars do elsewhere. Residents wave for a speedboat the way you’d wave for a taxi. Red mangroves guard the riverbanks and massive coconut estates line the way. Taste the sweetest coconut water in the Caribbean, and see supermarkets, gas stations, and bars all blended into river life.
This region is often called Guyana’s coconut country, and the coconut is the heart of this trip — you’ll taste freshly cut green coconuts from the shell, grate dry coconuts, and make coconut milk. Meals are farm-to-table, and your night is spent at a quiet riverside resort — small, and often hosting only your booked group at a time, though we don’t promise exclusive use.
Two days is what the Pomeroon deserves. Instead of racing back to Georgetown, you’ll slow down, eat well, wake to birdsong, and relax in the temple of palms.
Who this tour is for
Couples and small groups of two to eight who want calm, nature, and local culture more than a checklist of sights — travellers who like slow mornings, real food, long conversations, and being genuinely away from the city. If your time in Guyana is short, the Pomeroon River Day Tour covers similar ground in one long day.
Two days, unhurried
The outline below shows how the trip typically flows. It’s indicative — river conditions, weather, and your group’s pace shape each departure.

The natural upgrade from the day tour
Many of our guests first meet the Pomeroon on the day tour — and the most common thing they tell us afterwards is that they wished they’d stayed. The day trip is a long travel day with a few treasured hours on the river; the overnight turns those hours into a day and a half. If you’re choosing between the two and your schedule allows it, this is the version we’d recommend — the river is at its best when nobody is watching the clock.
What to bring
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Swimwear
- Sun protection — sunscreen, a hat, and an umbrella
- Insect repellent
- Personal medication, if needed
- Snacks, if you like something familiar between meals

Add the coffee: a third day on the Pomeroon
A three-day, two-night extension of this trip adds a coffee tour and a hands-on coffee-making experience — following the bean from the tree to a fresh-pressed cup, alongside the coconut experiences of the base trip. It’s a deeper stay for travellers who want the river to fully unwind them.
The extension is priced at approximately US$575 per person, pending final confirmation, and is currently offered by inquiry only — tell us you’re interested and we’ll confirm the itinerary, dates, and price with you directly.
Ask about the coffee extensionWhat international guests should know
- Guyana speaks English. It’s the only English-speaking country in South America — no phrasebook needed.
- All prices are in US dollars. Every price on this site is USD per person, and US dollars are widely accepted in Guyana.
- We handle every step. Pickup in Georgetown, boats, meals, and a personal guide — you never have to figure out local logistics on your own.
- Pack for the tropics. Light clothes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and swimwear — it’s warm all year round.
