The lay of the land
Six place names come up again and again on this site. Here’s what each one means in practice — no map-reading required, because on tour day we handle the geography for you.

Getting picked up
When you request a tour, we ask one simple question: where are you staying? From there you have two options.
- Pick me up in Georgetown — we collect you from your hotel or address. On some tours this is included; on others it’s a small per-person add-on. Either way, the surcharge is always shown before you submit your request — no surprises later.
- I’ll meet you at the departure point — usually Parika, the river hub about an hour from Georgetown. A good choice if you have your own transport or are already on that side of the river.
If your address falls outside our usual pickup zone, we won’t guess at a price — we’ll simply prepare a custom quote for you.
Prices in US dollars — no math needed
Every price on this site is in US dollars, shown per person — “US$120” means one hundred and twenty US dollars, no conversion needed. Guyana’s local currency is the Guyanese dollar (GYD), but US dollars are widely accepted, and we quote and confirm everything in USD so there are no surprises. What’s included is always listed right next to the price.
How payment and any deposit work is confirmed personally with your quote — nothing is charged online, and we’ll walk you through the exact steps before you commit to anything.
What to pack
Tropical river travel is easygoing, but a few things make the day noticeably better. Each tour page adds anything specific to that trip.
Food, dietary needs & allergies
Every one of our tours includes meals — real Guyanese food from local kitchens, not packed sandwiches. It’s one of the things guests remember most.
Because the kitchens we work with are small and personal, they can usually cook around dietary needs — but only if they know in advance. Tell us about any dietary restrictions or allergies in your booking request, and we’ll make sure the kitchens can prepare. For serious allergies, we follow up with you directly before the tour.

Weather & the rivers
Tropical weather changes fast — a bright morning can turn into an hour of rain and back again. Our guides read the rivers daily, and routes or timing can adjust when safety asks for it. When a change is needed, we communicate it as early as we possibly can.
How weather changes affect a confirmed booking is covered in our policies, which are currently being finalised with the operator.
Read our policies →How fit do I need to be?
Honestly: not very, for most of our tours — but they aren’t effortless either. Expect boat travel with steps on and off at jetties, some walking on uneven ground, and, on certain tours, very early starts or long travel days. The Pomeroon day trip is a long day; Mahaica begins at 4:00 am; Rupununi is a genuine overland expedition.
Each tour page lists its own travel intensity plainly, so nothing surprises you. If you have accessibility questions or anything you’d like us to plan around, put it in the notes of your booking request — we’d much rather know early and shape the day to fit.
